There is a podium here which is named as ARANGU, The Lantern of Rituals. So many allegories interlaced with Thekkady’s legends are hidden behind the setting up of this platform.
A Treaty was signed by the Secretary of Madras State (now Tamil Nadu) under the British Raj and the Maharaja of Travancore to operate the Mullaperiyar Dam and to irrigate farmlands on its side. Kerala History terms this Treaty as one which is signed by the Maharaja with the blood of his heart. The 975 Square Kilometers’ gathering ground of seven types of forests, where wide varieties of the spices, shrubs and herbs grow thickly, got bifurcated by this Treaty with the State of Madras. The Royal lineage always preferred this beautiful valley of Sahya Mountains for hunting as well as jubilating in wintertides. From the winter shelters put up here, the king and caravans used to get entertained with the depiction of the ethnic art forms of Travancore.
The Dais ARANGU, The Lantern of Rituals, is a staccato of those splendid royal memories. This ARANGU facilitates the gathering of 60 visitors at a time and performing of their art forms according to their own whims and fancies.
ARANGU, The Lantern of Rituals may arrange to promote the foreigners and compatriots to enjoy the indigenous arts of Kerala if booked in advance.
